The shakeup in the Monroe County Legislature continued on Wednesday.
It's an unprecedented move in Monroe County politics. Four county legislators have come forward to announce plans for a break-away type caucus called the Black Asian Caucus.
The reason? Legislators say voters in their districts are not being heard.
“Their voices are not being heard. And it is exactly because their voices are not being heard that we are forming the Black and Asian Democratic Caucus. Because it is our job to be sure their needs are understood and to speak truth to the power that be in county government,” said Legislator Ernest Flagler (D).
This follows a very unusual and short county legislature meeting Tuesday night. It ended abruptly when Democratic caucus members called for a vote to remove Democratic Minority Leader Vincent Felder from his leadership position.
Felder says the move was a dishonest, underhanded effort by a group of people trying to "hijack the process of choosing an elections commissioner.”
“I think it’s stupid because I think they are destroying the Monroe County Democratic Party and I don’t know how they are going to put it back together if they succeed in doing what they’re trying to do because they’re going to have a massive walkout and then they have no idea how bad it’s going to be," said Felder.
As for the Black Asian Caucus — Spectrum News is told legislation is being proposed.
