More information is being released about an allegation against Congressman Joseph Morelle after a Monroe County legislator alleged that Morelle abused his power.
Legislator Sabrina LaMar filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics, and is calling for Morelle to step down.
LaMar represents the county’s 27th district and says the congressman tried to have her fired from her job at RIT for appearing on a social media show of a political opponent.
Morelle’s campaign denies the accusation, but the congressman admits to inquiring with RIT about the appearance, releasing screenshots of his inquiry to the media. Those screenshots can be seen at the bottom of this article.
LaMar says she is moved by the public support is she's getting from Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and others.
“I was so honored that she put herself out on the line for me and women like me," said LaMar. "I know that this was very hard for her to do, but I appreciated it. I appreciated her support, and more importantly, I appreciated that she believed me.”
Morelle’s campaign office states that at no point was there any attempt to threaten LaMar’s employment.
