The reopening of Brockport’s Main Street Bridge over the Erie Canal has been delayed again.
This historic bridge that runs through the center of the village of Brockport has been undergoing repairs since May 2023.
Brockport village Mayor Margay Blackman says it was supposed to be completed and reopened in September 2024, but the primary contractor of the project, Crane Hogan, has experienced several delays due to material shortages and a six-month shipping delay of the lifting posts.
She wants to remind the public that village businesses are open and accessible via posted detours around the bridge construction.
“There are business owners who are currently experiencing troubles," Blackman said. "Some say they’ve lost 40% of business. Some of them are hanging by a thread. So it’s very tough. Even if the businesses are open, the traffic hasn’t come."
The new time frame for the bridge reopening is now mid to late June.
