Rochester residents who wish to recycle their Christmas trees this year may do so by the end of January.

Officials say trees can be dropped off at four locations around the city:

  • Genesee Valley Park tennis courts at the Genesee Street Extension, opposite 1355 Genesee St.
  • Cobbs Hill Park, Lake Riley Lodge east parking lot
  • Norton Village R-Center parking lot opposite 341 Waring Road
  • Estes Street opposite Abbott's Ice Cream parking lot

Residents can also leave the trees at the curb ahead of their designated refuse and recycling day.

The city says trees should not be bagged and all ornaments, decorations and lights should be removed.

Trees left for recycling will be chipped and mulched. The resulting mulch will be used by the Materials Give Back Program to provide free compost, wood chips, scrap lumber pieces and chip stone for those taking part in landscaping, buildable fill or other projects.

More information can be found on the city's website.
