ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Lamberton Conservatory at Highland Park in Rochester is decorated for its annual holiday show through mid-January. It's a great place to explore, especially this time of year.
Lamberton Conservatory is balmy so plants and flowers can thrive. Starting in the seasonal room, the colorful display includes hundreds of poinsettias grown by the Monroe County Parks Department. There are so many varieties to see.
"The poinsettias are perennials, so we grow them from year to year. We get new ones every year, we have about 650 this year," said Mark Quinn, superintendent of horticulture at Monroe County Parks.
From one room to the next, it's like visiting a new place. From the tropics filled with philodendrons, moss, orchids, hibiscus, figs and ferns. You might even see some quails running around too. What a spot to relax and enjoy the soothing sounds of a stream. You can also experience the desert here and all the prickly cacti.
It's an indoor adventure any time of year. The conservatory changes the seasonal room five times a year. The poinsettia holiday show continues until Sunday, Jan. 12. Lamberton Conservatory is located at 180 Reservoir Ave. in Highland Park in Rochester. It's open seven days a week.
