Saturday marks two years since U.S. citizen and Danville, New York, native Ryan Corbett was wrongfully detained by the Taliban.

The humanitarian worker and his family lived in Afghanistan for more than 10 years, moving back to Western New York when the Taliban took over the country.

Corbett returned overseas to check on his business when he was detained.

The 40-year-old has been held in a 9-by-9 basement cell ever since.

It took more than a year for the U.S. government to declare Corbett wrongfully detained and since then, his wife, Anna Corbett, has been to the nation's capital more than a dozen times advocating for his immediate release.

"I see the negativity. Like, why is Ryan being held? He's done nothing wrong. He was wanting to help the Afghan people, but there's a lot of people that are coming alongside me and helping me and fighting for what's right, and that's really encouraging and exciting to see," Anna Corbett said.

U.N. health officials report Ryan Corbett’s health is declining quickly.

His family has spoken with him on the phone just 10 times and says he has fainting spells and seizures, constant ringing in his ears, crocodile skin and has lost significant weight.

Bipartisan resolutions have passed in the House and Senate calling for Corbett's immediate return home.
