Rochester's Clean Sweep initiative is set to return this year.

The annual city-wide spring cleanup is set for Saturday, May 4, Mayor Malik Evans was Rochester Red Wings President and CEO Naomi Silver, members of the Rochester City Council, and neighborhood leaders announced Monday.

“Clean Sweep is a classic Rochester event that embodies the enormous spirit of pride that our citizens have in our community,” Evans said in a statement. “At Clean Sweep, we unite—friends, family, neighbors, and strangers—to beautify every corner of the city. I invite you to join me this year; few experiences match the satisfaction of transforming our city for the better, alongside thousands of dedicated individuals.” 

The initiative will start at 8 a.m. at Innovative Field. Volunteers will be given a light breakfast and Clean Sweep t-shirt and find their group or join a project. 

Residents, community groups, sports teams, businesses, churches and youth groups are welcome, as well as individuals. 

City crews will work to remove graffiti, clean city properties, repair sidewalks, fill potholes and plant flowers while volunteers help. 

Once projects are completed, volunteers will be bused back to Innovative Field for a free Red Wings game and lunch.
