ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The eclectic South Wedge neighborhood in Rochester is showing off what makes it one of the most unique spots in the city. The Wedge is having a community festival this weekend.
The South Wedge has a culture all its own. It's a place for creativity and expression from the public art to the dozens of small shops and eateries. The people who work and live here give the South Wedge an edgy and welcoming vibe.
Frank Logan's lived in the South Wedge for 40 years. He's raised two kids here. He's also president of the SW Planning Committee. He loves it here.
"We have a ton of really unique businesses here. Axom has high-end furniture and design and we have a new place that just opened, Marilla's Mindful Supplies just up the street here. We have a lot of young people who come and enjoy the nightlife at Lux. It’s just so much the vibe of the South Wedge,” said Logan. “Our neighbors, if there’s anything they need, I’ll help them. If I need something, they are more than willing to help out. That’s what I think. It’s a real sense of community when you live here in the South Wedge.”
At the South Wedge Festival, you'll have the chance to visit local artists, vendors, food trucks and all of the businesses here, and get your groove on with a lineup of homegrown bands.
The South Wedge Festival is free. It's Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on South Avenue between Gregory Street and Averill Avenue.
Some of the festival sponsors include Canandaigua National Bank, Hedonist Artisan Chocolate, Abundance Food Co-Op, UR Medicine, Episcopal SeniorLife Communities, Veterans Outreach Center, Goodwill, Ryan Plumbing and Heating and First Student.
The South Wedge Planning Committee serves residents, businesses and visitors of the South Wedge.
