Grab your PJs, four friends and start making a homemade bed on wheels, because the Webster Bed Race is back for the first time in some 15 years.
Webster Rotary is already test-driving its homemade race car bed now ahead of the 2023 Webster Bed Race Saturday, Sept. 16.
“What we want is people to be creative,” said Robyn Whittaker, president of Webster Rotary. “We want them to get their bed and just have a lot of fun with it but you also need to make it so it moves quickly.”
Teams of five are encouraged to enter the family-fun race to drag race beds right through the village of Webster.
“The race itself will go in heats of two beds," Whittaker said. "It will be an elimination."
The Webster Business Improvement District, Webster Rotary, Lions Club and Kiwanis would love to see you race down E. Main Street All entry fees will go to the Webster Community Chest food pantry.
“It’s more reason for people to come in and see what we’ve got,” Whittaker said. “We have so many more new stores and restaurants here in the village. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come in and learn about what we do in our community and all the service groups and see what we’ve got going on in the village.”
"It's about togetherness, love and community," said Penny Swingly, vice president of Webster Rotary Club.
"It's fun but it's also great to get out and exercise and it's a little bit of friendly competition," said Webster Rotary Club member Robert Williams.
The Webster Bed Race includes junior and senior races. Entry fees are $5 per person for ages 14 to 19 and $10 per person for adults aged 20 and up. The deadline to enter is Aug. 31. The event is Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can register online at websterbid.com.
