Police said they do not suspect foul play after a man's body was found in a retention pond near a CVS in Knightdale, North Carolina. The Knightdale Police Department said they are trying to identify the man after he was found Thursday afternoon.
A person driving by the retention pond called police when they thought they saw a body floating in the water off Knightdale Boulevard. Police said they are working with the medical examiner to identify the body and notify his family.
“Regardless of the circumstances, this is a tragic ending for any person and sad day for the family they leave behind,” said Police Chief Lawrence Capps.
“We are grateful for the attentiveness of the passing motorist and the assistance we received from our investigative partners today. Our primary goal at this point is to make a positive identification and notify next of kin," Capps said. "We are hopeful that our investigation will provide the family with answers and bring them some measure of closure.”
Capps said the medical examiner will perform an autopsy on the body to try to figure out how the man died.
