The Perinton VFW is selling American flags to help you fly the red, white and blue and raise a little money for the post.
VFW Post 8495 is one of the largest posts in upstate New York with about 340 members. This flag sale is one of a couple of fundraisers each year to help keep the post going.
Jay Edgerton is a Marine Corps veteran. He served six months in Iraq. The VFW has been a positive community and veteran connection in his life. He appreciates what it’s here for, so anything he can do to help and he’s all in.
“We still have a handful of World War II members all the way through Korea, Vietnam, the war in the Middle East and up to current day members who are still serving and coming back and joining,” said Edgerton.
Edgerton and the VFW connected with a new vendor this year to provide a larger selection of flags in different sizes that are 100% made in the USA.
“We have 3 x 5 and 4 x 6 at three different price points,” Edgerton said. “We have a $20, $30, $40 and a $50 price point for the larger 4 x 6 and we also branch flags for all the branches. Everything’s available here at the post and if there’s something we don’t have, we can always order it.”
The VFW has an old post office box set up outside for residents to place old flags that will be sent out for a respectful destruction.
Flags can be purchased with cash or check at the VFW Post Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m. and Sundays and Mondays from noon to 7 p.m. The Perinton VFW is located at 300 Macedon Center Rd.
