Sometimes the biggest challenge in health care is connecting people to the resources they need.

A parish in Hilton is partnering with Monroe County service providers to get them some help in one place that's close to home.

St. George’s Episcopal Church in Hilton is hosting Human Services Day Saturday. It is a free event and is open to the public.

“There are so many services out there and we have people ask for help all the time," said Fr. Greg Kremer, pastor at St. George's Episcopal Church.

Fr. Kremer and volunteers are setting up for some 20 service providers that will be at the event. There will be health services for children to seniors from behavioral health, to mental health, eye care, veterans outreach, drug treatment, assistance and even Medicare planning.

“It can be a little daunting for folks to get themselves into the city or to navigate the red tape," said Kremer. "We thought, what a great idea to bring everybody out here. I came across a similar event in the city, and I thought, 'oh, we can do this.'"

“If you live out in Hilton and go downtown to the Department of Social Services or go downtown to the veterans agency or downtown to do your business, it is a day. If you have a family and kids it becomes a barrier. So County Executive Bello says, 'Josie make it happen' and so here we are bringing the services to Hilton,” said Josie McClary, Monroe County chief community engagement officer.

There is no need to pre-register for the event that runs from noon to 4 p.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church located at 635 Old Wilder Rd. in Hilton. It's located right across the street from Kelly's Apple Farm.
