The Hyatt Regency Rochester is ready to open something new in the space overlooking Main Street. It’s serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week and beginning Friday, the new Astor on Main will have live jazz every weekend.
“I don’t know any other restaurant in the city of Rochester that has a multilevel aspect to it,” said Michael Harrington, general manager of the Hyatt Regency in Rochester.
The return of live jazz, food and drinks was inspired by the popular Rochester Jazz Festival jam sessions at the Hyatt the past couple of years. The Hyatt will have live jazz year-round at Astor on Main. It occupies the former Morton's The Steakhouse that closed in 2020.
“It was just a moment of clarity seeing everyone enjoying themselves,” Harrington said. “The music is great. The sound is phenomenal down here and so we said let’s go in that direction.”
The food is elevated comfort food with a southern flair from fried oysters to barbecue glazed salmon. And for cocktails, there’s “Let the Beat Drop,” Casamigos margaritas and some local flavor with Black Button Distilling and the “BB Cold Brew Martini.” It’s all at Astor on Main.
“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to open space and to not just have jazz, you know, that 10 days out of the year for jazz fest,” Harrington said. ”Now we will be able to offer jazz music year-round.”
The grand opening for Astor on Main is Friday at 3:30 p.m. Live jazz is planned every Friday and Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. and during Sunday brunch from 12 to 2 p.m. The Hyatt is located at 125 E. Main St., in Rochester.
