The city of Rochester is getting ready for next year's solar eclipse. It will be the first total eclipse in the area in nearly 100 years.

Rochester and Western New York sit in the eclipse's path of totality. That means people in the area will be able to see and experience the full eclipse for more than three and a half minutes.

Officials hope the once-in-a-generation event will be a big draw for the area.

"Every single person in this region will have this experience of awe and wonder to see a total solar eclipse," said Hillary Olson, president and CEO at the Rochester Museum & Science Center. "Everyone not in this region is going to want to come here because Rochester is doing the eclipse right."

The city is planning to celebrate the occasion with a multi-day festival and special viewing parties.
