LE ROY, N.Y. — Junior prom and senior ball season is fast approaching at high schools across our region. Teenagers are getting ready to shop for gowns, suits and bow ties.
The Le Roy Central School District has found a way to help kids dress their best. The Knights’ Closet at Le Roy High School is open every day for students.
This time of year students can pick out formalwear.
Everything in the Knights’ Closet is free. It is all inclusive. It has everything students need to look and feel their best thanks to community donations of gently used clothing.
“The Knights' Closet has been a part of our school for a long time. It is reliable and people can get anything they need,” said Dylan Jamieson, a junior at Le Roy HS.
The Knights’ Closet has everything from track shoes to hoodies to jeans, even socks and toiletries.
"We make sure everything is in decent condition so it lasts a long time," said Nicole LiRosi, Le Roy HS senior.
Prom season can be financially stressful for a lot of families. Student volunteers are busy getting all the formalwear ready to go, even the fancy shoes.
“There is no stigma around it. Usually you would think of something like this for lower income families but really it is for anybody,” said Alexiana Clarke, Le Roy HS senior. “You can come in here and let’s say you need a pair of shoes for track or you need a dress for a prom or semi-formal. It is something that is really open. It’s not anonymous. It’s just very ‘oh hey, do you want to go to the Knights’ Closet with me.’ There is no price. The price is coming to school every day so that you can enjoy the resources we have. I love the fact that the culture at our school is so accepting. Go Knights!”
The Knights' Closet is available for Le Roy students grades 7-12. It also has school supplies and personal care items. It's open during the school day and sometimes after school and during specials events. Anyone wanting to donate can reach out the Mrs. Bertrand at jbertrand@leroycsd.org.
