ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul was in Rochester on Monday to discuss the impact she says her budget proposals will have on the Finger Lakes region.

Her plan is to have nearly $20 million go toward supporting higher education projects, $96 million to be invested in infrastructure and $15 million to upgrade green spaces in the region.

Some of the specifics include:

  • Expanding the semiconductor manufacturing industry in Upstate New York
  • Creating a new visitor center at the Susan B. Anthony Museum and House
  • Building a running track bridge in downtown Rochester
  • Upgrading parks across the region, which includes Letchworth State Park
  • Modernizing Cornell AgriTech's Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture

"All over the state of New York, our education foundation getting smart people getting them educated making them ready for these jobs,” Hochul said. “Because the jobs are coming the jobs are coming."

"Governor Hochul's proposed Executive Budget for FY 2024 reflects shared values, shared priorities and a shared belief that investing in Rochester is a great investment for all of New York State,” Rochester Mayor Malik Evans said in a statement. “This budget builds on transformative, State investments already underway in Rochester and will accelerate our progress on a host of critical issues, including gun-violence prevention, lead-free housing, job creation, and the improved delivery of mental health services. I want to thank Governor Hochul for her continued commitment to the Finger Lakes region and helping us advance our goals to create a safe, equitable and prosperous Rochester."

Officials have until April 1 to modify or approve Hochul's budget.
