WATERLOO, N.Y. — Carol Ritter Wright has spent 50 years on stage, but the costume she’s wearing for her latest production just might be her favorite.
“The gown I’m going to wear, oh it’s a killer," said Wright. “Just imagine gold sequins."
It’s the 50th season for Seneca Community Players. As one of the original members, Wright is rehearsing for her role in the anniversary show.
“This is glorious. I just turned 81 and it’s hard for me to believe I’m getting a chance to do a solo performance at my age," Wright said.
Other actors rehearse musical numbers from past shows, each representing a decade in the group's history.
It’s being directed by sisters Deb and Becky Bly, who say putting the show together was humbling.
“It makes me aware of the strong history SCP has and the hundreds of people that have participated for 50 years with love and sweat," said Becky Bly.
It’s that love and sweat from performers that Carol said made SCP last all these years.
“People that do community theater do it for the love of doing it," Wright said. “For the love of being with other people. It’s really loads of fun."
While Wright doesn’t know how much longer she’ll be taking the stage, she knows that Seneca Community Players isn’t going anywhere.
