ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Funeral services are being held Wednesday for retired Rochester Police Officer William Keith Booker.

Book, as he was known, died after being shot on the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Iceland Street on Sept. 25.

Police responded to the scene around 2 a.m. for a report of a car crash and a person shot. According to investigators, Booker was driving south on Jefferson Avenue when he struck a parked car. They say they aren’t certain whether their former colleague was shot before or after the accident.

The RPD says Booker suffered one gunshot wound to the upper body. He was rushed to URMC where he was pronounced dead. Police are still searching for his killer.

Officer Booker served the Rochester Police Department for 21 years.

Booker's funeral is taking place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Father’s House church located at 715 Paul Road in Rochester. The RPD will provide an honor guard and escort during the service.
