FAIRPORT, N.Y. — You’re invited to stroll down South Main St. for the Perinton Historical Society’s House Tour. It’s back and in-person for the first time in three years.

What You Need To Know

  • The in-person Society House Tour is back
  • This year’s tour visits six homes at the southern entrance to the village on South Main St.
  • It's a historic area of architecturally distinguished homes
  • The tour will take place Sunday, Oct. 2, from 1-5 p.m.

Fairport is full of architectural gems from Greek revival to Victorian, tudors and craftsman homes. You’ll find them all when you walk through the village.

Nancy Shadd and Lucy McCormick not only live in the village of Fairport, they are volunteers with the Perinton Historical Society and House Tour. They know a lot about these beautiful homes.

“I love learning about the people who once called these places home,” said McCormick. “To me that is always fascinating. The historical society committee is very energetic in digging out all that information.”

On Sunday, you can tour six historic homes on S. Main St. in Fairport. That includes the Martin Sperbeck house. It has three porches. Also on the tour is a home that was built and once occupied by a Revolutionary War veteran. Another home on the tour was built less than 10 years ago and is an all-electric home that’s energy efficient. The former pink house, yes, the rotating Christmas tree house, is also on the tour. You will also get to go inside.

“I love architecture and I love history. I am so proud of what the Perinton Historical Society does,” said Shadd. “It is like a jewel, a resource for anyone interested in our Erie Canal history and our Fairport history and the homes.”

The home tour is Sunday 1-5 p.m. and is free with a Perinton Historical Society membership. It's super easy to join the Perinton Historical Society for free perks all year. You can stop in the museum located at 18 Perrin St. in Fairport Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Memberships start at $15.
