Monroe County Executive Adam Bello wants to spend another $9.4 million for improvements to county parks.
It would be on top of the more than $7 million already invested in parks last year.
Among the projects, Bello is proposing a kayak launch, spray park, playgrounds, pickle-ball courts and a synthetic ice rink.
“For decades there has been disinvestment in county infrastructure — including our park system. Rebuilding and improving our infrastructure is a key pillar of our plan to Bring Monroe Back,” said County Executive Bello. “Our residents deserve better than rundown lodges, washed-out roads, tired playgrounds and scant amenities. The added $9.4 million investment will restore the grounds and infrastructure as well as add modern improvements to make our parks second to none.”
The additional parks revitalization projects include:
- Golf course improvements at Genesee Valley Golf Course, Durand Eastman Golf Course, and Churchville Golf Course
- New playground at Powder Mills Park
- Restoration of Kanatota Lodge in Webster
- Synthetic ice rink, spray park, new ADA playground and renovation of the Dentzel Carousel at Ontario Beach Park
- Pickleball courts at Black Creek and Mendon Ponds Park
- Underground electrical and fiber improvements at Beikirch Park
- Replacement of wood-burning stoves in most county park lodges
- Waterline mapping and repair at various county parks
- ADA-accessible canoe/kayak launch at Churchville Park
Bello says the money would also go toward the upkeep of existing buildings.
