ROCHESTER, N.Y. — While the Buffalo community continues to process last weekend’s tragic mass shooting, the Rochester community is doing its part to honor those who lost their lives.

Monroe Community College held a remembrance for the 10 Black victims killed and three others wounded.

Pictures of the victims were displayed during the ceremony, along with a candle lit under each one. The event also served as a call to action for MCC members to continue promoting peace and justice on campus and the community.

“We want people to understand the impact that this tragedy had,” MCC student Isabella Derubeis. “We want people to know te stories and the lives of the people. We don’t want people to look at this event as just another one on the news. We want people to see the humanity that was lost because of this brutal, horrific attack”

The event was put on by the MCC Student Government Association and Holocaust Genocide and Human Rights Project Student Learners.
