ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren will officially resign from office on December 1, 2021. She said goodbye to the city and the position she has held for the past eight years in a video released on her final day as leader of the Flower City.

In the video, Warren expressed her thanks for the opportunity to serve the Rochester community. She also reflected on her legacy as mayor and what she says she has accomplished during her tenure.

Warren in the video also addressed the children of the Rochester community, saying in part:

"As an adult you will learn the life isn't always easy. Sometimes the things you hope for, no matter how hard you try, won't always happen. And sometimes you'll be faced with a decision that seems to have no right answer. Those are the moments when you have to remember to walk by faith. When I myself was faced with one of the most difficult decisions in my life, I chose you. I have no regrets. I made that decision knowing that I fulfilled the promise I made eight years ago and so many people helped me along the way and our work speaks for itself."

Warren is leaving office one month early as part of a plea agreement reached after she was accused of violating election law. She was defeated in the June primary by Mayor-Elect Malik Evans, who went on to win the general election unopposed in November.

Deputy Mayor James Smith will take over for the month of December until Evans is sworn into office in January.
