Two years after New York Post writer Maureen Callahan called Rochester "grim and depressing" in a column about Wegmans opening in Brooklyn, she paid a visit to the city Saturday.

According to Callahan, she didn't think much of her assessment of the Flower City until she received tons of emails from Rochesterians trying to prove her wrong.

The Red Wings, being good sports, hosted 'Grim and Depressing' night at Frontier Field in Callahan's honor.

“I never thought I’d go online and see the Red Wings tweeted a challenge to me to show up on a night named for me and the column” said Callahan.

Fans played along with the theme, many wearing all black or special shirts reading 'grim' across them. Fans could also enjoy a 'Grim and Depressing' ale.

Callahan threw out the first pitch, receiving mostly cheers but a few boos thrown in.

Before Saturday's game, Callahan visited popular attractions around the Flower City, even making a stop at Wegmans in Pittsford. She says this whole this experience taught her to think before you write.

“The Rochester I’ve been shown today is really welcoming, really beautiful, and really culturally rich," said Callahan.
