The Geneva City Council meeting Wednesday night ran into the early morning hours when members finally voted on several resolutions of police reform. The meeting lasted more than six hours and included several heated exchanges between council members.

Fifty residents were part of the public comment, speaking for and against many of the proposed reforms.

The first resolution involved not hiring two new officers who are currently in training. That measure was rejected.

But the creation of a task force to examine the police department's body camera policy was approved, as was setting a public hearing to begin exploring the creation of a police accountability and budget advisory board.

The first public hearing to discuss a police accountability board will be held August 5.
