Beam me up Scotty!
A new pop culture technology exhibit at the Rochester Museum & Science Center combines science fiction and science fact.
"It has been a blast to bring it in and see the looks on people’s faces when they get to experience these iconic pieces,” said Calvin Uzelmeier, the museum’s director of education. “To be able to bring this kind of stuff, this kind of media, these images in film and television, this is what’s inspired what we live today. It is what's inspired scientists and inventors to create the world we are living in and that our future is going to look like."
SciFiTech is a multi-gallery exhibit about how pop culture has influenced technology today. There are iconic pieces like the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the Terminator, R2-D2 and other robots many people grew up watching and playing with. The exhibit shows how these images in film and television inspired the technology we use today.
"This is the future we predict versus the future that we actually get,” Uzelmeier said. “In terms of the communication age, it is really great to see that come to life in this exhibition."
SciFiTech is open at the Rochester Museum and Science Center until May.
