A man who claims to have been falsely arrested by the Webster Police Department in 2017 has launched legal action.

Joseph Snowden alleges police made up evidence to justify arresting him for a robbery on Lasalle Drive in November 2017. He was arrested a month later, but claims surveillance video taken from the home ruled him out.

The lawsuit claims the suspect in the video did not wear glasses, although Snowden does. It also suggests that the suspect has an arm deformity, which Snowden does not.

Snowden's wife also told police he was home with her the night of the robbery.

The suit further claims Webster Police intentionally destroyed Snowden's recorded statement.

A grand jury chose not to charge Snowden in July 2018. The suit claims the "false imprisonment" and arrest caused him to be fired from his job at Monroe Community College.

A request for comment from the Webster Police Department was not immediately returned.
