Fall is harvest time, and a great way to enjoy locally grown produce is with G and S Orchards in Walworth.

Gary Craft and his wife Stephanie own the 210-acre farm that grows an assortment of fruits and vegetables.

The couple is inviting the public in to pick-their-own. G and S is one of only a select few local farms that still has strawberries for picking until the first hard frost. The farm uses what's called low-tunnel greenhouses.

"The younger generation needs to learn where their food comes from,” Gary said. β€œIt does not just show up at Wegmans. They need to see what it takes to get stuff to the stores.”

They also have "you dig" veggies.

"It is something we started a few years ago and it just keeps getting a little bigger and bigger,” he said. β€œIt is educational for kids on how stuff because it doesn't come in a plastic bag. They need to see where it comes from.”

The Crafts supply the tools to do the digging.

You Pick/You Dig is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The farm will be open on Columbus Day. G and S Orchards is located on the corner of Atlantic Ave. and Lincoln Rd.
