A dispute between an East Rochester man and teenager is getting some attention on social media.
Video shared online shows a white man telling a black teenager that he’s part of the KKK, then spraying the boy with a hose.
Police confirmed responding to two calls last week: One at Edmund Lyon Park in East Rochester called in by teenagers that said a man was taking pictures of them. According to police, the man said the teens were unkind to his mother. The teens confronted the man at his house and that’s when the encounter took place.
The boy’s mother Christina Poles said her family moved to East Rochester over the summer. Her 14-year-old son is preparing to start his freshman year at the high school. She’s upset her son was treated this way.
"He didn’t really explain to me the severity of the situation, Poles said. "It wasn’t until days later when someone sent me the video, another parent, that I understood the gravity of the situation."
"I would like to not condone some of the things that was coming out of my son’s mouth but this was a 14-year-old boy," Poles added. "I, as an adult, wouldn’t have been able to handle an attack like that."
East Rochester Police Chief Steve Clancy said the 59-year-old man contacted the police after the incident. He has since been charged with second-degree harassment, and released from custody.
A judge also issued an order of protection for the victim.
Clancy said it's an unfortunate for everyone involved and is hoping this can be a learning experience.
