The Brockport High School Class of 1959 gathered for a senior class reunion this weekend.
Dozens gathered from all over the country to laugh, mingle, eat, and reminisce on their days at Brockport High School. The graduating class 116 students held its first reunion was in '64.
The group lost a few members over the years, but they say they make it a must to meet every five years to create new memories.
Lynne Knab-Mullins, who helped organized this year’s reunion, says she doesn't mind ensuring that her close friends enjoy themselves.
“When you have friends as good as this you want to make them happy, you want to be happy,” said Mullins. “It’s all about memories when you get together like this. It is friends growing up, having families and careers and getting back together and that personal touch we have every five years."
Brockport Alums Bruce and Barbara Jenkins traveled from Maryland for the reunion. The couple has been married for '54 years. They graduated together in '59, but it was their first class reunion in 64 that brought them together.
“There’s a little bit of everything and we are old enough so that nobody is trying to impress anybody anymore,” said Barbara.
“I think the secret is to spend a significant amount of time apart so that you appreciate it more when you are together,” Bruce added.
The class plans to meet again in the five years to continue a tradition of embracing the old and the new.
