The Hilton High School graduate charged in the deadly crash that killed her best friend and injured another driver pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving as part of a plea deal on Wednesday.

Police say Brianna Scarpulla was driving June 10, 2018, with her friend and fellow Hilton High cheerleader Paige Smith, when the vehicle crossed the center lane and struck an oncoming SUV on Latta Road in Greece. Police say Scarpulla was driving 70 miles an hour in a 40 mile-per-hour zone.

Smith died in the crash, which took place before both she and Scarpulla were to graduate from high school.

Scarpulla is now on a one-year probation. If during that time, she goes without getting in additional trouble, she will have the option to withdrawl the criminally negligent homicide plea and be given youthful offender status which seals the record.
