Three cases of mumps have been confirmed in Livingston County, according to health officials.
The Livingston County Department of Health says it is working closely with the state and Livonia Central School on a health and safety plan.
The school district confirmed on Wednesday that two of its high school students have been diagnosed. District officials say preventative cleaning protocols were implemented upon learning about the first student.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the mumps is a contagious disease that is caused by a virus. It's spread by direct contact with saliva or bodily fluids from the mouth, nose or throat.
