County Legislator LaShay Harris will take over Adam McFadden's seat on the city council as the South District Representative.

McFadden was removed from the council after pleading guilty to wire fraud and filing a false tax return in federal court.

The former councilman was previously charged in connection to a federal investigation into a scheme where McFadden illegally received funds from the Rochester Housing Authority (RHA).

McFadden faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison as a result of his guilty plea. His sentencing is scheduled for June.

Harris currently represents the 27th District in the Monroe County Legislature, which is centered on Rochester's historic 19th Ward neighborhood.

“I am aware that with new horizons come new challenges and I look forward to working to resolve those challenges for the betterment of my constituents and the City as a whole," Harris said in a statement.

The council will formally vote on the decision Tuesday, April 30 in a special meeting.

Harris will serve out the current term that expires at the end of the year.
