City officials are expected to name a new permanent Rochester police chief on Tuesday, but one man who won't be taking the job is Interim Chief Mark Simmons.

He confirmed Monday that he did not submit his name for consideration, and says that accepting the job would not be in the best interest of his family.

City officials have been searching for a replacement since former Chief Mike Ciminelli left in September to take a job in Washington D.C. with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In a statement, Simmons said:

"Serving the City of Rochester as Interim Chief of our great police department was a sincere honor, and one of the major highlights of both my life and career. I look forward to continuing to serve this City by returning to my role as Deputy Chief of Police."

The new chief will be named by city officials at a Tuesday morning press conference.
