St. John Fisher College issued an apology Wednesday for offensive photos that surfaced from old college yearbooks.

School officials said in a statement that the photos "photos do not reflect who we strive to be and have no place in an institution of higher education" but did not describe the images any further.

The apology comes just one day after Rochester Institute of Technology apologized for a racist photograph that was identified in a student-produced yearbook.

"As upsetting as these photos are, we will use their existence to further the useful and productive dialogue now taking place within our community," St. John Fisher College spokesperson Melissa Greco said in a statement.

"I want to assure our campus community and the community at large that we remain committed to representing those virtues and that respect, open-mindedness, and integrity are of the utmost importance to the College."
