AUSTIN, Texas — One man has been arrested after he allegedly vandalized Austin’s iconic Stevie Ray Vaughan statue.

According to police, on Feb. 5, several people witnessed a man spray-painting and placing a Philadelphia Eagles jersey on the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue. The witnesses were able to get his license plate before calling 911.

Police were able to trace the license plate back to 39-year-old Matthew Rutledge. On Feb. 9 detectives obtained an arrest warrant and charged him for graffiti, a class B misdemeanor. He is currently being held at the Travis County Jail.

APD and the Park and Recreation Department are determining the cost to repair the damages.
