HILTON, N.Y. — Mainly Books in Hilton is a volunteer-run community bookstore that continues to share the joy of reading. If you are looking for a specific book or author, chances are Mainly Books in Hilton has got it.

“We are kind of an anomaly. We are one of the few bookstores that is a standalone from the library, so it’s kind of neat to watch Main Street go by," said Liz Gliszczynski, volunteer at Mainly Books.

Liz Gliszczynski loves books. She’s an avid reader so when she was looking to volunteer close to home, Mainly Books was the perfect fit.

“When I was in high school I dreamed of being a librarian and then life got in the way and so this is kind of an awesome opportunity to do what I enjoy doing," said Gliszczynski.

Mainly Books is filled with gently used and sometimes new books, CDs, DVDs, and puzzles. Nearly everything in the store was donated. Everything is priced from $0.25 to $5.

You can buy, read, and then return them. The store can resell them. Sale proceeds support the Parma Public Library that's located just down the street.

"They are such a valued asset to us," said Amy Hougue, Parma Public Library director. "They make it possible for us to have all the programming especially now in the pandemic with all the Zoom programming. They have paid for every single thing that we have had in addition to our normal programming. We would not be able to do it without them."

There are about 30 volunteers at Mainly Books and about 100 people part of Friends of the Parma Public Library. Mainly Books is open Tuesday through Saturday. It's located at 24 Main Street in Hilton.
