ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Museum and Science Center's Strasenburgh Planetarium and its four-story dome and window to the universe can now be rented for private planetarium shows.
You can travel to outer space or experience the starry night sky and listen to The Beatles or Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin with your own private planetarium viewing party.
"Everybody’s comfort zone is so different," said Heidi Luizzi from the Strasenburgh Planetarium. "This is giving us the flexibility to do something smaller for families and that way people can get together in a small group. Right now, the planetarium can seat 40 people, but for some people they really just want to keep things private to their own little pod so-to- speak. So it’s been a good opportunity for us to be able to respond to what our public has asked for.”
Private planetarium viewing parties are for a maximum of 20 people. Guests must wear face coverings and follow social distancing guidelines. You can choose from the Holiday Laser show, Hubble’s Immersive Universe, Pink Floyd Laser, Led Zeppelin Laser, The Beatles in Laser Light or the National Parks Adventure. The cost is $250 per private show. All shows run for roughly 45 minutes.
To make a reservation, call (585) 271-4320.
The planetarium continues its public shows on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Be sure to check in to see what's playing. A new show, called Black Holes Revealed, begins March 13.
