There’s a new youth recreational center that’s hosting summer camp and classes in the Village of Fairport.

Challenge Athletics just opened last week at The Cannery on Main Street at Parce Avenue in the village of Fairport.

After a couple of months of construction delays due to COVID, Challenge Athletics owner Jill Grundman and her team are finally hosting classes and summer camp. Kids ages 1 to 18 can learn proper tumbling techniques and form. There are trampolines, foam pits, a dance studio, and space for martial arts.

"It was a big deal trying to open during COVID and getting backtracked over and over again, but it helped us to better prepare for it because it gave us time in our build-out to change what we were doing to accommodate some of the guidelines. It will be great to have lots of energy here and people coming in," said Grundman.

Riley Wilkins is a sophomore at Penfield High School. She’s training hard and hopes there will be a competitive cheer season the school year.

"I got all my skills; back handspring, then a standing tuck, and then a round-off back handspring full to keep our skills ready for the season," Wilkins said.

Like a lot of youth-focused businesses, Challenge Athletics is extending its daytime programs when school starts.

Challenge Athletics is open Monday through Saturday.
