Dr. Michael Mendoza, health commissioner for Monroe County, has announced on Wednesday that he is stepping down from the position.
Mendoza has served as commissioner of public health since 2016.
“I wish the best for all the dedicated staff in the Department of Public Health and I am certain that the department will continue to be successful," said Mendoza.
The county will now begin a search for Mendoza's replacement. Dr. Marielena Velez de Brown, current deputy commissioner of public health, will serve as acting commissioner of public health in the interim.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
