BATAVIA, N.Y. — Officials in Batavia broke ground Monday on a new campus that brings medical care and wellness programs under one roof.

The new facility, a collaboration between GLOW YMCA and Rochester Regional Health's United Memorial Medical Center, will be 78,000 square feet.

There will be primary care and exercise studios as well as cancer screening and nutrition education services.

The $33 million facility is paid for with state and federal funding as well as community donations.

"Transform what are historic downtowns that may have been ignored over time but just need a little push, just need a little bit of investment to really help it take the step needed to make it into the 21st century and be that destination that downtowns are and continue to be," said Robert Rodriguez, New York State secretary of state.

The healthy living campus is expected to open late next year.
