ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Families in Rochester started choosing next year's school this week, and, for the first time, it can be done all online.
The RCSD's School of Choice policy allows families to choose the school that best fits their child's talents and needs. It's for students entering kindergarten, seventh or ninth grade for the 2023-2024 school year.
The district is showcasing its high schools with a new digital magazine.
Parents need to know in which of the five city-wide school zones they live before choosing options for their kids' school. They will then rank their top five selections.
"Make sure that the parents take advantage of using their voice and we hear their voice so that we can make the right match the first time," said Dr. Carmine Peluso, interim superintendent of the Rochester City School District.
All applications can be finished online and those are due Feb. 17. Any parents who need help with the form can go to the district's office on West Broad Street.
Those who don't take part in the lottery will be placed in a school closest to their home, where space is available.
