A player on the Penfield High School boys’ varsity basketball team has tested positive for COVID-19.
The team will now enter a mandatory quarantine, the Penfield Central School District announced Sunday.
The Monroe County Department of Health notified the district and school of the diagnosis. The student last attended school on Sept. 18.
“While I understand that this quarantine raises concerns, it demonstrates that the contact tracing process is working,” said Superintendent Thomas Putnam. “We appreciate the guidance and support of the Monroe County Department of Public Health in these matters and understand their cautious approach in ensuring the health and safety of our students.”
