IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Voters in some Monroe County suburbs are choosing town supervisors on this Election Day. There are contested races in Greece, Pittsford and Irondequoit.

In Irondequoit, there are five positions in town government on the ballot, including the top job of town supervisor. The names of the two candidates in that race are familiar to many.

Democrat Joseph Morelle Jr. and Republican Rory Fitzpatrick are both seeking the supervisor spot. They are making a run for the office after Dave Seeley announced that he would not seek re-election. He has been Irondequoit's town supervisor since 2016.

A few Irondequoit voters offered their perspective on this year's election.

"You can’t have any say over what happens in government unless you say unless you participate," said John Baglin. "So if you don’t vote, you just need to be quiet about whatever you don’t like for the next two years."

"Well, I am looking for someone that is going to progress Irondequoit and keep Irondequoit going strong," Laurie Buckley. "I love this town and I would never not come out for a vote in Irondequoit. So I encourage everybody to go out and vote in your local elections."

"How can we get more people to vote?" asked reporter Wendy Mills. "Why is it important for you to vote today?"

"To have a word. To know what’s going on and who is running for a what and who is going to do a better job of supporting us," said Carolyn Quinlan. "I think it’s important for us to come out and have a say."

Also on the ballot in Irondequoit are two town justice seats and two town council seats.
