ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester police are still looking for suspects in a quadruple shooting over the weekend. Two people died, a third was critically injured.

Rochester now has more than 300 shooting victims already this year. It's one of the highest numbers in more than a decade and it reflects a spike in gun violence happening across the country.

Even though this shooting happened at a large party, no witnesses have come forward so far, authorities say.

Police say a man in his 30s died at the scene, a man in his 20s died at the hospital and another man in his 30s is in critical condition. A woman in her 20s is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to investigators.

Authorities say people were gathered outside a building where a large party was happening on Driving Park Avenue when shots were fired just after 2 a.m. on Sunday.

This shooting happened exactly one year since a mass shooting on Pennsylvania Avenue that left two people dead and more than a dozen injured.

"That Pennsylvania Ave. mass shooting occurred on September 19 at 12 in the evening," said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department. "The tragedy tonight took place on September 19 at 2 in the morning. Just about a two-hour time difference. Certainly sad. Certainly disheartening. And it makes you wonder what type of progress we've made since then and what have we learned as a community since then, and what can we do differently to try to prevent these tragedies from happening again in the future."

It's not just Rochester seeing a spike in gun violence. The Gun Violence Archive reports more than 14,500 people have died from gun violence in America through September 15. It also reports there have been more than 500 mass shootings. Authorities classify mass shootings as four or more people killed or injured by gunfire during a single incident.

The number of mass shootings this year so far rose 15% when compared to 2020. The Gun Violence Archive says the country is on pace to hit more than 700 mass shootings total this year.

Police are asking anyone who may have cell phone video from the shooting on Driving Park Avenue to call 911 and help in the investigation.
