ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is dead and two others wounded following Rochester's latest shooting.

RPD officers responded to the area of Monroe Avenue and Woodlawn Street around 1 a.m. Friday for a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they found a 29-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man and a woman, both in their 30s, were also found to be suffering from gunshot wounds. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening. They were taken to URMC by ambulance.

Police believe an altercation escalated and resulted in the three people being shot.

Captain Frank Umbrino with the Rochester police says more than a dozen rounds were fired and he believes there could have been more than one shooter. He says the three victims were not shooters themselves.

Umbrino says this is now the 19th homicide in the city this year and investigators are feeling spread thin.

"We obviously have a limited number of resources. There's a limited amount of hours in a day. We can't create more hours in a day so we can only do what we can do. We have a team of professionals who put 110% into every case but your most valuable asset is hours in the day and we can't create more of those," Umbrino said.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.

This latest homicide follows Thursday's deadly shooting on Mead Street, just off of North Clinton Avenue. That's where police say Jacob Wims, 28, was shot to death.

So far, police say there are no suspects in custody in either case.
