GREECE, N.Y. — Greece police have arrested a man they say fired more than 150 rounds from a handgun on New Year's Day. One of those bullets struck a nearby home.

The bullets were allegedly fired in the neighborhood surrounding Arcadia Parkway just before 2:30 a.m.

According to police, Ratna Rai, 28, of North Carolina, is facing several felony charges.

Police say the shooting lasted roughly 30 minutes. Long enough that some residents in the area told officers that they thought the gunshots were fireworks.

"Whether they fired indiscriminately or there were targets, still unknown. It's just the act of what he did that was just obviously so wildly dangerous and reckless," said Sgt. Jared Rene of the Greece Police Department.

Rai was arraigned on charges of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal mischief, according to investigators.

He was released with an appearance ticket.
