ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester police have released the identity of a man who died after being shot and crashing his car into a house on North Street.

Richard Godbold, 26, died at the hospital.

Police were called to the 900 block of North Street around 1:45 a.m. Sunday for a report of a motor vehicle that crashed into a house. Officers were able to extricate the driver, Godbold, when it was discovered he was shot.

Goldbold was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to police.

During the incident, officers heard gunshots from the area of Central Avenue. There, officers located a crime scene that spanned a block and a half, according to police.

A 30-year-old male city resident was dropped off at URMC via a private vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. His injuries are serious, but not believed to be life threatening, according to police.

“As a result of the investigation thus far, it is believed both individuals were shot on Central Ave.,” Rochester police said in a statement. “There was large party taking place inside of rented space in a warehouse on Central Ave that broke up just before the shooting.”

Police say as the partygoers were leaving the area, multiple gunshots were fired and the two individuals were struck.

The circumstances leading up to the shots being fired are being investigated.

“The Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation and is asking anybody who was in attendance at the party, was a witness to the shooting, or has any information to call 911 or email MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov,” police said.
