No charges will be filed for a Thanksgiving weekend incident where the young son of a Rochester Police Department investigator was considered missing in Greece, leading to a large search by police officers and causing an uproar in both the city and town.
The Greece Police Department announced Friday afternoon that, after reviewing the facts with the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, there's not enough evidence to proceed with criminal charges.
Early on the morning of November 24, a three-year-old was reported missing from a home on Sherri Ann Lane in Greece. The Rochester police chief said more than 60 officers in total began searching, and police in Greece said officers were met with belligerence and non-cooperation from adults at the Thanksgiving party.
A search went on for about two hours. The child, meanwhile, was safe, alone and sleeping in bed back at his home about four miles away. How he got there was in question; police from Rochester had told Spectrum News there was a miscommunication with family members and the child was taken home by a family member earlier in the night.
Rochester Police Department Investigator Jeff McEntee was suspended with pay following the off-duty incident. The child was his son.
Police in Greece have insisted that McEntee was not treated differently because he is a police investigator; that there was no probable cause for an arrest.
The Rochester Police Department reiterated Friday that an internal investigation remains open, and the department will not comment on internal investigations, per policy.
