ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The University of Rochester is no longer requiring the COVID-19 booster shot.

On Wednesday, the U of R announced it would be putting the requirement on hold for all university students, faculty and staff. That includes those on the University of Rochester Medical Center campus.

A statement on the university website says the booster requirement is on hold "indefinitely."

The move comes after the state said in February that it would abandon the booster requirement for health care workers.

Students, faculty and staff will still be required to be fully vaccinated, meaning they have received two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, unless they have received an exemption.

The U of R is also continuing to strongly encourage the wearing of face masks to prevent the spread of airborne diseases like COVID-19 and the flu, but also to protect those who may be more susceptible to serious infections because they are immunocompromised or due to other conditions.

More information can before in the university's latest update.
