Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced Monday that multiple county-run COVID-19 testing sites will shut down, effective Tuesday.

Instead, home rapid test kits will be available for residents for free at participating Monroe County libraries.

A full list of participating libraries can be found here.

Bello says libraries in Greece, Parma, Chili, East Rochester, Webster, Hamlin and Scottsville will not be participating.

“With our COVID case numbers steadily declining over the past month and free vaccines and boosters more widely available, it’s clear we are in a new stage of this pandemic,” Bello said in a statement. “Our focus now is on making home testing more accessible by partnering with the library system.”

“The public libraries in Monroe County are happy to support County Executive Bello, municipalities and our community members by distributing these important COVID rapid test kits to county residents," Monroe County Public Libraries Director Patty Uttaro said in a statement. "With more than 3 million visits a year, Monroe County libraries are natural partners for community distributions.”

The county says antigen testing is now limited to 804 North Goodman Street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m.

As of Monday, the following sites are still offering free COVID vaccines:

  • Pittsford Plaza - 3349 Monroe Avenue, Rochester, NY (Weekdays 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
